I got a good few hours in down the plot yesterday while the sun was still out. The last of the spuds have been unearthed and, after boiling up a few last night, the rest are stored in old shoe boxes or on their way in to colleagues at work. Very tasty, as are the runner beans and few remaining carrots.
I’m also making progress with the tidy up, the last side of my front beds has been sorted – levelled out, covered in weed-supressing material and bark chip. The front of the plot is finally being blitzed and once ready I’ll be tackling the rather scary-looking insides of the two composters and getting the generously donated cold frame (ish) contraption up.
This is going to sound weird, but one thing I need to get better at next year is eating more of my crops. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve had lots this summer (particularly given the rubbish weather), and have shared a lot with family and friends, but far too much seems to go to waste. My pledge for the next period is to spend more time picking and eating food than tarting up the site.
Oh, and the birds have nicked a load of the grapes again. A bit of netting in order next summer too!
